Welcome to the Department of Architecture!

As you may or may not be aware, my name is Vidal Tripsa and I'm Director of Architecture in Extropia. What this essentially means is that I'm endeavouring to guide a builders' community inside Extropia; a job made all the more exciting by tackling a theme which not many others seem to embrace. Until now this has been facilitated by face-to-face office hours and articles written for the department's blog, Building Extropia. Now though I hope we have a chance to share more than just formal rules and the occasional drop-in appointment.

What's this space for? It's whatever you feel might benefit you most as a builder in Extropia. Have you found a library of futuristic textures online that you want to share? Are you needing some help with door scripts? Found any interesting photo-essays on raypunk design in your travels? Please do share it here.

Also be sure to keep an eye on our website at the wiki, on our Del.icio.us bookmarks and on Building Extropia.

I wanted to comment that the new "Odyssey" is simply stunning. A wonderfuly sumptuous melange of form and funtion! Madame is certainly to be congratulated!

The view sunset views from the oval windows in the new, raised pods is breathtaking, and these are sure to be the new "hot address" in Extropia.

My only suggestion would be for a solid roadway linking to the Core and the broad public plazas of NeoVenice, that I might "motor" unimpeded from one end of Extropia to the other!

It would indeed, but then Extropia might enjoy a lot of what's in this embarrassing plethora of screenshots, if only we had the space, time and resources. ;)

Ah-Ha! I would expect nothing less from Madame!

I was taken by the "pool side" interior shots; particularly the "cascading" curtains of water. Perhaps Extropia might enjoy such a public space?

True, and luckily I have that covered, too. I hear that there is a modern remake being batted around, though. If Wikipedia is to be believed, the IP has been changing hands for the past decade. It'd be good to see that remade, I think.

Madame is quite resourceful! Sadly, the exterior shots appear a bit "dated" by today's standards. The water side cascading "tiers" of the appartment complex is visually enthralling, however.

A movie, that would appear to be an excellent candidate for a modern re-telling, although I suppose one might consider "The Island" to be a direct descendant..

That's handy, Mr. Denimore! I got a hold of the DVD shortly after its eventual release in the UK, and took screenshots like a demon: http://picasaweb.google.com/dollyvidal/LoganSRun

I would find 2pm SLT acceptable, and could be available most weekdays; personal schedule dependent...

That's a pretty excellent idea, Mr. Denimore! I may end up throwing a spanner in the works by being a director trapped in Greenwich Mean Time, but I can have a look and see if there's an ideal time for everyone else to attempt this sort of thing. Ballpark suggestion... probably around 2pm SLT. That falls just after our Chairlady's director drop-in.

Reading Madame's commentary in "Catching Up on Promises" has inspired me to offer a suggestion. Perhaps the "Department of Architecture" should have a monthly in-world meeting on the Extropia Events Calendar.

This would allow for "roundtable" style discussion, and for guided "walk throughs" of current projects. Preliminary designs could be "rezzed" in-world and reviewed in real time/space for feedback from residents.

Excellent suggestion, Cral! In fact, I had that in mind but sadly saw the film far too long ago. A re-release of the DVD is due out in a couple of months' time. I shall using that opportunity to remind myself of its wonders.

Oh, and.. blush! You're a dear flatterer, Mr. Denimore. Thank you.
