I imagine that most people have considered purchasing an Openspace sim at some time since they were released in February. Even at the original prim count, they were a tempting offer. The raise in available prims (to 3750) was a sweetener to the deal, but of course
now that prices have risen to meet whatever maintenance costs they're apparently incurring, I can imagine a lot of dreams have recently been dashed.

My own was named
Wings over the World - its name a tribute to H.G. Wells'
Things to Come, and its content a personal tribute to
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. I had dreams of recreating Cap's base, right down to Dex's playthings in the hangars. A little off the beaten track would lie my doll's house - a personal estate from which I could explore my fantastical dreams with those closest to me. If time and tier allowed, I would also start a murder mystery adventure there, kicking off a story with its roots in Extropia's own founding history.
But of course, I can't now. Not only has the initial cost risen, but tier would have to too, to the point where the Openspace's own prim limits would prevent inviting enough tenants onto them in order to keep payments going. It saddens me to lose my dream, but saddens me more to here that many of my friends too have had such dreams written off.
Second Life can be a wonderful world, for it brings us close to friends we may never come to know in the atomic world. Sharing in someone's creative vision and in their personal culture is a big part of that, and is displayed in no more beautiful fashion than in the environments those people create around themselves. Openspace sims once offered us hope of achieving that personal space, but now we are on the verge of being priced out, and that a part of the
Second Life dream is then lost.
A day, and a place...
Not this day, perhaps.
But there WILL come a day.
